About DBCB
History of Dragon Boat Club of Boston
In July 2001, twenty dragonboaters from Boston paddled in the 6th Annual Montreal Dragon Boat Festival. They were greatly impressed by the spirit, teamwork, and athleticism of the Canadian teams. Fueled by their excitement, they founded Dragon Boat Club of Boston, Inc. in October 2001 to build a local infrastructure to support year-round dragon boat activity.
The mission of the Dragon Boat Club of Boston, Inc. is:
-
To promote and develop the sport of dragon boat.
-
To promote cross-cultural understanding through the sport of dragon boat and community outreach programs.
-
To conduct any and all other activities relating to the above.
As a Massachusetts 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the club supports teams to compete in and beyond Boston. In April 2002, the club purchased its first fiberglass Great White North dragon boat. In October 2004, we got our second fiberglass boat. From April through October, the club operates practices six days a week from the Hatch Shell Dock on the Esplanade along the Charles River in Boston.
Dragon Boat Club of Boston welcomes new members year-round. Come onto the boat today!
